A Really Bad Dream

I was hoping that I would wake up this morning to find that I just had a bad dream and Obama had actually lost the election.  I honestly thought that Romney was going to win because I didn't think that people could be so blind to what Obama has done.  It just makes me sick and sad and nervous and worried and pissed.  Right now, I'm mostly pissed. 

Bill decided on Monday that he was taking a vacation day today and I thought about doing the same but I didn't and I'm glad.  If I had been home, I would have just been watching Fox News and arguing with people on Facebook all day and I would have ended up exploding.  Going to work kept my mind off of the election results at least for a while.  I was ok until I got home, pulled into our driveway and noticed that our idiot neighbors across the street (he is a life-long democrat and she was a Republican until 2008) still had their Obama and McCaskill signs in their yard.  I pulled into our garage, got out of my car, opened our door, walked in the house and burst into tears saying, "If they still have that sign in their yard in the morning, I'm going to go over there, rip it out of the ground and shove it up her ass."  Pretty childish, I know, but it made me feel better.  Kind of like the part in Steel Magnolias where Sally Field's character wants to "hit something and hit it hard."  Hee hee hee...  

So before dinner, I'm checking Facebook and notice that an individual, who shall remain nameless, made some pretty stupid remarks to me on Facebook.  I was going to post them here for all to enjoy but she has since removed them, I assume because she was losing the argument.  I used to work with her.  Correction, I hired AND fired her about 12 years ago and I think she's still angry.  Once she realized that I knew who she was, she disappeared.  Ha!

I didn't post much at all about the election here on my blog this year.  I did most of my posting on Facebook since there's a wider audience there (wink) but just wait.  Obama may have four more years...but so do I.  It's my blog and I'll post whatever I like, unless of course he's going to try to take away that freedom too.

Trattoria Toscana

We had dinner with the family at Trattoria Toscano last night.  It is located in the old Milano's location.  Actually, I still refer to it as Milano's even though there were at least 3 or 4 restaurants there after Milano's closed.  Anyway, Trattoria Toscano has great food such as fried artichokes, tosted ravioli, a wonderful house salad, tilapia, various pastas, beef dishes, chicken spedini, etc.  I had the spedini and it was delicious.  We will definitely dine there again.

We saw 2016 at the theater this afternoon.  How anyone can vote for this idiot is beyond me.  I ordered a Romney Ryan yard sign and bumper sticker.  I can't wait to see which sign the former Republican across the street places in her yard.  Hopefully, she has opened her eyes in the last 4 years and has come to her senses.

Sarah Palin & Glenn Beck

My liberal friends may want to skip this post because I'm sure you'll be bored...hee hee hee.  We had tickets last Friday for the "Restoring the Republic" event featuring Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck at the Family Arena in St. Charles.  It was soooooo much fun!  First of all, it was so refreshing to be part of a large group of people who all have similar views regarding our country.  Secondly, we had awesome seats; 4th row center.  Third, it was cool to see both Sarah and Glenn in person.  I had seen Sarah back in 2008 after the Vice Presidential debate which was here in St. Louis but she only spoke briefly that time where as she spoke for over an hour on Friday.

I took over 150 pictures total but I figured it would take forever to load this post if I posted them all...hee hee hee.  

Both Sarah and Glenn spoke about God, family and country.  Sarah also spoke about weather.  Apparently it's quite a bit cooler in Wasilla than it is in St. Louis this time of year because she said it was a "little roasty" here and it was only 84 degrees.

OK, I'm watching the Cardinals/Brewers game (game three of the NLCS) and the Cardinals are currently winning 4 to 2 in the top of the second.  We have tickets for Fridays game and I can't wait.  Go Cards! 

Pot Stickers

Mmmmm, pot stickers!  I love pot stickers.  The first time I had ever heard of them was when I was about 12 or 13 and we were at a restaurant called Marco Polo.  I was a pretty picky eater back then though so there was no way I was going to try them but my mom, dad and sister did and they enjoyed them.  The first time I actually tried them was the summer of 1984.  I don't remember what I was wearing (hee hee hee) but I know where I was and who encouraged me to try them.  I was doing volunteer work at the Reagan Bush headquarters here in St. Louis and one of the other volunteers, Maria Sanchez, told me that they were really good and that I should try them.  There was a Chinese restaurant on Delmar and 170 which was close to the headquarters and we would order lunch or dinner from there every few weeks or so.  Once I tried them, I loved them.  Maria then gave me a recipe and I've been making them ever since. 

A few years ago when we were eating dinner at the Culver Pavillion prior to one of the Muny performances, they had pot stickers as one of the appetizers and they were served cold on a bed of Chinese cabbage.  Yum!  A perfect summer meal.  So, guess what we had for dinner tonight...

 

They really aren't very difficult to make.  Here's the recipe...

• 1 pound ground chicken or pork
• 1 bunch green onions, chopped
• 1 tsp ground ginger
• 1/4 cup chopped water chestnuts
• 3 to 4 TBS low sodium soy sauce
• 1 package of won ton or pot sticker skins
• 1 egg, beaten

Place ground chicken or pork in bowl.  Chop green onions using most of the dark green part and discard the white part or store for future use.  Add ginger, water chestnuts and soy sauce and mix thoroughly.  Place about 1 1/2 tsp of mixture in the middle of a won ton skin.  Brush edges with egg and fold and press edges together.  Steam for approximately 10 to 12 minutes.  Heat 2 to 3 TBS of oil in a skillet and place pot stickers in skillet, flat side down, cooking until dark brown.

I made them with pork for years.  About 5 or 6 years ago, I started making them with chicken and I actually prefer them this way.  I think they are much less greasy and I would assume that they're healthier too.  When serving cold, place pot stickers on a bed of napa or Chinese cabbage, pour a small amount of tamari and rice wine vinegar over the pot stickers and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top.

 
For the cold pot stickers, I do not fry them.  I make them the night before and then place them in the fridge after steaming.  I have a Rival steamer/rice cooker and I use 2/3 cups water and steam until water evaporates which is approximately 10 minutes or so.  You can also use a stove top steamer basket.  As for the edge crimping, I have a pot sticker crimper...

 
You can also just fold the edges together and press them with your fingers although this nifty little gadget is much quicker and it makes for a tighter seal.  I don't remember where I bought it but I'm sure that it can be found at various kitchen stores.

Since there is no Muny performance tomorrow, we're going to eat at The Melting Pot.  We haven't been there for about 2 or 3 years so I'm looking forward to it.

 

Happy 100th Birthday, President Reagan

Today is the 100th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's birth.  This video will be aired before the Super Bowl game today:

  

I watched the Reagan tribute on Fox today.  Oh how I miss him!  

In case you're wondering, we didn't end up getting as much snow on Tuesday as they had originally predicted.  We had about 3 inches of sleet and 4 inches of snow.  We then got another 4 inches early yesterday morning.  It was only supposed to be a dusting.  The weather people certainly aren't doing a very good job of predicting the weather this winter!

We're going to watch the Super Bowl tonight.  I only watch it for the commercials but if I have to take sides, I guess I'll root for the Packers.

Tea Party Under the Arch

We went to the 9-12 Tea Party under the Arch on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny and not a cloud in the sky.  The rally officially began at 1:00 but there was music beginning at 12:00.  We arrived at approximately 11:45 and there were already several thousand people there. By the time the rally started, there were over 14,000 people sitting under the Arch.  It was so refreshing to be with a group of people who feel the same way about our current administration as both Bill and I do.

There were quite a few speakers including Dana Loesch, Bill Hennessy, Dick Morris, David Limbaugh, Andre Harper and Sammy Kershaw.  There was also a lady from Austria who spoke about how she and her family lived under Hitler for 3 years before coming to the United States.  She reminded us that Hitler was elected by a large majority, he nationalized the banks, he nationalized the auto industry, he nationalized health care.  Hmmm, sound familiar (well, except for the large majority part).  Now of course during the election when I compared Obama to Hitler on that silly little crafting site, I was told that I wasn't allowed to do so.  No reason given, as is the usual for that site.  I rarely even go to that site anymore.  Too many idiot libs over there. 

After the rally, we stopped by Tap Room for dinner.  I had crab cakes and fries and Bill had a burger and we had a few brews.  We then came home and watched the Cardinals beat the Braves.  Just a great day!

It's no secret that I adore Sarah Palin.  If she were to run for President, I'd definitely vote for her.  In fact, I'd do volunteer work for her campaign.  Anyway, check out this video...

It Passed

Woohoo.  Proposition C passed 71% to 29%.  I would say that that sends a pretty clear message to Barry that we do NOT want his health care plan.

The November elections should be very interesting.  I think the democrats who supported the health care bill are pretty nervous about losing their jobs.  Just sayin'.

Proposition C

One week from today, Missouri voters will have the chance to make our own decisions relating to health care.  We will be voting on Proposition C which is also known as the Health Care Freedom Act.  If passed, no federal law could force a patient, employer, or health care provider to participate in any government or privately run health care system designed by the state or federal government.

I will be voting Yes.  For those of you who are in favor of Obamacare, great, but give me the ability to choose what is best for me.  Since this is the first proposition of its kind in the US, other states will be watching this elecion closely.  I'm praying that it passes and that other states follow suit.  We need to send a message to Obama that we do NOT want to live in a socialistic society where healthcare and everything else is provided and controlled by the government.   

To those of you who live in Missouri, please vote "Yes" on Proposition C next Tuesday.
