Bathroom Remodel - finally finished

Well Day 18 brings the remodel to a close.  They installed the mirrors and lights today. 

 

So now we just need to choose a painter to paint the bathroom.  Yes, we had attempted it before the remodel began but with the high ceiling, it's just too difficult for us amatures...hee hee hee.  We're planning to have the bathroom and our bedroom painted some time this spring.  We also still need to find some wall decor.  It's taking long to find that than it did to choose the tile, vanity and granite! 

Now that the bathroom is finished, any inconveniences we experienced during the work will soon be forgotten.  I'm so glad we finally had the work done.  We love our new bathroom!

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 17

So yesterday, the second faucet was installed, the baseboard and accent tile were grouted and the toilet and fan were installed.  No pictures.  I figured everyone knows what a toilet and grout looks like...hee hee hee.  

The mirror and lights will be installed on Monday afternoon and then other than the painting and curtains/valance or some other window treatment, the bathroom will be finished.  :)   

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 16

So Day 16 was a half day on Tuesday.  The faucet on one of the sinks was installed along with the showerhead and the towel bar and rings...

 

 

He's coming back tomorrow.  I think the plan is to have everything except the mirrors and lights finished.  Hopefully everything else will be done and we can finally start using the bathroom.  

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 15

Here we are at day 15.  Today, the shower door was installed..

It's kind of hard to get a good picture of it since there is glare from the window.  Oh, and I don't know why that piece of blue tape is there but I didn't want to remove it in case there is a reason for it...hee hee hee.  The other work he did today was move the outlets for the lights and install the frame for the mirrors...

Most of the hardware was also installed...

Jerry, the bathroom guy, is going to work about 4 hours on Tuesday and then a full day on Friday and everything will be done...or so he says.  :)

I've just about finished my Christmas card post and hopefully I'll be able to post it tomorrow.

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 14

So the remodeling work resumed today.  The granite and pedestal were installed...

 

We love the granite!  I mean yes, we saw the granite when it was a huge slab but it's just hard to picture what the finished product will actually look like so you just cross your fingers and hope for the best.  

Here is the shampoo bottle holder thingy...

It still needs to be grouted but we really like how it turned out.  Jerry, the guy working on the bathroom, even liked how it turned out.  

The ledge between the shower and tub as well as the window sill are also granite...

The tub faucet was also installed.  Notice that the overflow thing hasn't been changed yet.  

So, the work will continue tomorrow.  The shower door will be installed (definitely) and the sink faucets will be installed (hopefully).  I also hope that the shower head, toilet and tub skirt will also be installed.  Jerry still needs to move the electric for the lights, install the frame for the mirrors and install the exhaust fan so I guess we'll just see how it goes.

I do have Christmas card posts ready to go but I didn't mail the last card until Tuesday so I didn't want to post any of the cards too soon.  I will definitely post them by this weekend.  Also, check back tomorrow for more bathroom updates.

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 13

Well, the "partial" day lasted until after 2:00pm...hee hee hee.  The baseboard was installed...

The tile was wiped down so the grout residue is gone...

This photo isn't very good because of the lighting or lack thereof.  The shower walls look like they have different tile but they don't.  It's all the same tile.  Anyway, he also did some plumbing for the sinks today too.  Now we wait for the granite which I believe is supposed to be installed on the 19th.  I'm sure Greta will be happy to have the house to herself during the day for the next week and a half.

Bathroom Remodel - Day 12

Jerry grouted the shower and the tile around the tub today...

 

There is still grout residue on the tiles but even with that, the tile still looks good.  We love it.  As I mentioned in on of my previous posts, the grout color is lighter than the sample we chose but at least it looks the same in the shower and on the floor.  Sssshhhh, don't tell Bill but for all of the complaining I did, I actually like how the grout turned out...hee hee hee.

So the issue today was the fact that since we have a low profile shower base, a standard height shower door would be too low.  Jerry told me that Howard, the shower door guy I mentioned yesterday, said that he would have to charge a "few hundred" more for this.  Um, no.  The bid we have includes the low profile base and a custom shower door.  The tile was installed as shown in the plans.  Nothing changed.  So, after several phone calls back and forth with Heather (the designer), Fred (the foreman) and finally Howard, we have it all figured out and they won't charge any extra.  Of course Fred and Jerry think it's Heathers fault.  Jerry even commented that "you can't go by the designer's drawings. Those are just cartoon drawings."  Whatever.  At least it's settled.

So on Monday, Jerry's coming back to install the baseboard.  He's only supposed to be here part of the day but who knows...hee hee hee.

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 11

The tile in the shower was completed today:

Howard, the shower door guy came to measure for the shower door today.  Jerry, the guy doing all of the work in the bathroom asked Bill if Howard could have our mirror.  Bill said to Howard, "I'll sell it to you" and Howard said, "I don't buy used mirrors" wherein Jerry thn said, "I guess that's a no".  Five minutes later, Howard and Jerry are walking out of the house with the mirror.  Um, why ask if your going to take the mirror anyway.  Seriously, we didn't want the mirror but we just think that it was handled poorly.

So tomorrow, Jerry's going to grout the shower and tub and install the baseboards, or so he says.  I guess we'll see how that goes..

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 10

So today, the tile work around the tub was completed...

He also finished the tile in the shower on the wall next to the tub and the tile on the end of the wall. 

The granite people came out to measure and said that we are on the schedule for installation on the 19th.  What, seriously, that's over 2 weeks from now.  Yikes.  Since the shower door installers can't measure until the granite is installed, it looks like it may be after Christmas before the bathroom is completely finished.  

In other news, I got in my car to go to work this morning and my battery was dead.  Bill was already working out at the gym so I texted him and then called AAA and they sent someone to change the battery.  The guy was a talker.  I learned more about him in 20 minutes than you can even imagine.  For example, he used to do construction work, he had a girlfriend whom he charged $500 a week to finish her basement but then they broke up and he didn't finish her basement and didn't feel bad because there was no written contract so he wasn't under anyh obligation to finish it, he only gets a 2% raise per year, AAA cut his pay and he now makes what he did 5 years ago, Missouri was in the southern AAA region until Hurricane Katrina and then California adopted Missouri (um, ok), California AAA has different forms that they are required to use and no one likes them, he lives in Jefferson County and he used to help install pools.  Phew, I think I may have even left out a few things but you get the idea.  Oh, and he tried to tell me that my car isn't a Miata.  Goofball.

OK, so I think the plan tomorrow for the bathroom is to finish the tile work and the baseboards which are also tile.  Hopefully he will be able to grout everything on Friday and finish the cabinet hardware, tub faucet and toilet installation.  Check back tomorrow for an update...

 

Bathroom Remodel - Day 9

So today, the shampoo bottle holder thingy was framed in and some of the tile in the shower and around the tub was put in place...

The subcontractors "boss", Fred, stopped by today.  I asked him what the remaining schedule looked like since we have to coordinate time off work.  He said that they would be finished by Friday and then would just waiting for the granite and shower door to arrive.  

Update on the garbage disposal situation I mentioned yesterday; it couldn't be repair and had to be replaced.  Ugh, it was only 3 years old.  I guess they don't make things like they used to.
