The Muny season opened this week with Thoroughly Modern Millie. It's the story of Millie Dillmount who leaves Kansas for Manhattan where here goal is to get a job, marry her boss and become a modern woman in the year 1922. She stays at a boarding house called Hotel Priscilla where some questionable things occur. It was a great show. In fact, Bill's comment when it was over was, "I loved it."
Leslie Uggams played the part of Muzzy Von Hossmere. She is an amazing singer. I guess I never realized that she sings. I think of her as an actress. She was in one of my all-time favorite mini-series, Backstairs at the Whitehouse.
We had a picnic in the park before the show; sandwhich and salad from St. Louis Break Company (known as Panera to most everyone outside of St. Louis). The weather was perfect, mid 80's with low humidity. They're predicting 102 for this Friday though. Yikes!
I just realized that I didn't post a list of the shows for the season when they were announced so here they are:
- Thoroughly Modern Millie
- Chicago
- Aladdin
- Dreamgirls
- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
- Pirates
- The King & I
Here are the shows I voted for this year:
- Hello Dolly
- The Buddy Holly Story
- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
- Smokey Joe's Cafe
- Dream Girls
- Stomp
- Aida
Here are the shows Bill voted for:
- Sunset Boulevard
- Smokey Joe's Cafe
- Gypsy
- Unsinkable Molly Brown
- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

- A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
So two of my shows made it onto the list this year. We've seen Chicago, Joseph and The King & I before but the other 4 shows are new to us.
I'm still working on my Hawaii post and will hopefully have it finished by the weekend. Until then...
