Shrek

We saw Shrek at the Fox Theater yesterday.  It's the first show in this season's Broadway Series.  We have season tickets again this year in the same seats as the last two seasons and I'm really looking forward to all of the upcoming shows, especially Nine to Five, South Pacific and Wizard of Oz.  We traded our Jersey Boys tickets for Wizard of Oz since we've seen Jersey Boys before.  I really really love Wizard of Oz.  :)

Shrek was so cute.  The actors who played the main characters, Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and Prince Farquaad, were all great.  I loved the songs too. 

After the show, we ate dinner at the Over/Under Bar & Grill.  It's located on Washington Ave & 10th in the heart of the Loft District.  We started with the tillamook cheddar crab mac & cheese and then Bill had the Mahi po' boy and I had the crab cakes and waffle fries with gorgonzola cream sauce.  Yum.  After dinner, we stopped by Bottleworks to try their two newest brews, Hop Harvest Ale and Hot Liquor Porter.  Both were very good and we even bought a growler of the Porter to take home. 

OK, I know I haven't posted many cards lately.  I've been working on Halloween and Christmas cards so I can't post them yet.  The other thing that has been consuming some of my free time is the kitchen remodeling.  We have another appointment with the designer on Wednesday so hopefully we can finalize our plans.

Red and Fred

As I mentioned in my Downtown Restaurant Week post, we had a difficult time deciding which restaurant to visit because so many of them looked really great.  When we finally decided on Mike Shannon's, I added the others to our list of restaurants to try.  One of those restaurants was Red which is in the Hyatt Regency St. Louis, fka The Adam's Mark Hotel.  We decided to eat there on Friday night and I'm very glad we did.  River Front Times Iron Fork winner, chef Bernard Foster does an excellent job.  We started with the polenta fries and the antipasto chopped salad.  For the entree, Bill had the red snapper and I had the butternut squash ravioli with brown butter, sage and pine nuts.  Super yummy.   

We went to a wedding yesterday.  The groom, Paul, is the son and grandson of long-time family friends.  In fact, his grandparents were like my second set of grandparents.  My mom, dad, sister and I went to Hawaii with them back in 1977 and from then on, they said that they were our Hawaiian grandparents...hee hee hee.  OK, so back to the wedding.  Paul and Theresa are avid Cardinal fans so Paul's mom arranged for Fredbird to appear at the reception.   Being an avid Cardinal fan myself, I was thrilled to see Fred.  He was dancing and being his crazy Fredbird self.  He also posed for pictures so my sister, Lisa, and I were able to get our picture taken with him.

Tea Party Under the Arch

We went to the 9-12 Tea Party under the Arch on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny and not a cloud in the sky.  The rally officially began at 1:00 but there was music beginning at 12:00.  We arrived at approximately 11:45 and there were already several thousand people there. By the time the rally started, there were over 14,000 people sitting under the Arch.  It was so refreshing to be with a group of people who feel the same way about our current administration as both Bill and I do.

There were quite a few speakers including Dana Loesch, Bill Hennessy, Dick Morris, David Limbaugh, Andre Harper and Sammy Kershaw.  There was also a lady from Austria who spoke about how she and her family lived under Hitler for 3 years before coming to the United States.  She reminded us that Hitler was elected by a large majority, he nationalized the banks, he nationalized the auto industry, he nationalized health care.  Hmmm, sound familiar (well, except for the large majority part).  Now of course during the election when I compared Obama to Hitler on that silly little crafting site, I was told that I wasn't allowed to do so.  No reason given, as is the usual for that site.  I rarely even go to that site anymore.  Too many idiot libs over there. 

After the rally, we stopped by Tap Room for dinner.  I had crab cakes and fries and Bill had a burger and we had a few brews.  We then came home and watched the Cardinals beat the Braves.  Just a great day!

The Return of Copia Urban Winery

Copia Urban Winery reopened in late June, over 2 1/2 years after a fire destroyed the restaurant on December 29, 2007.  You can read my post regarding the fire by clicking here.  As it turns out, a former employee started the fire and is currently serving time in prison.  We had eaten at Copia 3 or 4 times prior to the fire and it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants so we're very glad that they reopened.   

So, we finally had a chance to dine at Copia tonight.  We reserved a table in the wine garden which is an outdoor covered patio.  The patio looks just the same as it did before the fire except for one thing; there is a wall where there once was an open 6 foot tall raught iron fence.  I believe this is to prevent any additional fire incidents.  Anyway, the temperature was a little cool but we were seated right next to one of the fireplaces so it was just perfect.  We started with the arancini which was just as good as I remembered.   I then had the beer cheese soup and the Sesami encrusted Ahi (well done, thank you very much) and Bill had the jalapeno shrimp and risotto.  We enjoyed a bottle of 2008 A to Z Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley.  We don't normally order dessert but they had gooey butter cake with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry sorbet.  It was just calling my name so I just had to have it...hee hee hee.  

We're so glad that Copia is back and we'll be sure to dine there again soon.

Sarah Palin

It's no secret that I adore Sarah Palin.  If she were to run for President, I'd definitely vote for her.  In fact, I'd do volunteer work for her campaign.  Anyway, check out this video...

Holiday Weekend

We went to the Cardinal game on Friday.  They were playing the Reds and it was the first game in St. Louis against the Reds since the big fight back on 8/10.  The Cards won 3 to 2 thank goodness.  There was a fireworks show after the game which is always cool. 

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is a jerk.  Does he wonder why Cardinal fans hate him?  I mean besides the fact that he is the one who started the fight in August by tapping Yadier Molina's shin guards?  Oh yeah, could it be because he said this...   

“We have to beat these guys. I hate the Cardinals. All they do is bitch and moan about everything, all of them, they’re little bitches, all of ‘em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear – I hate the Cardinals.”

Whatever!  He went 4 for 0 on Friday and every time he came up to bat, the entire crowd errupted into boos.  Now, Cardinals fans are known to be the nicest fans in baseball.  Well, Phillips deserved the boos.  After each out, the fans cheered.  It was probably the loudest game I've been to in a long time.

We went to dinner at Big Bear Grill last night with my mom and dad, Lisa, Randy and the kids.  We had a great dinner and then went back to my mom and dad's house for a while.  We had a great time.  It's always so nice spending time with family.
