It was the 4th annual Downtown Restaurant Week here in St. Louis this week. We somehow missed it last year (I don't think it was very well advertised). There were 24 different restaurants participating this year. We decided to dine at Joseph's Italian Cafe last night and it was definitely a great choice.
Each restaurant offered three courses. I chose the crab cake appetizer and Bill had the calamari. My crab cakes were great and Bill said the calamari was tasty too although I'll have to take his word for it since I don't eat calamari. Just the thought of eating squid makes me a little squeamish. For the entree, I had the gnocchi with chipotle cream sauce, Italian sausage and roasted peppers. Bill had the chicken breast stuffed with pepperoni, ricotta and mozzarella served over angel hair. We both enjoyed the entrees. We then chose the chocolate cake for dessert. We wanted the chocolate mousse but it wasn't available. The cake was a good substitute though.
It felt very strange to be somewhere other than the Muny on a Friday night. We were home by 9:00 pm and I'm sure Greta wondered why we were home so early. She didn't seem to mind though.
Happy Saturday!
